SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was back at work on Monday after suffering a minor motorcycle accident that required a hospital visit to receive 15 stitches to treat a cut lip, his office said.
The former action movie star was riding with his young son on Sunday afternoon when a car driver backed into the street, hitting the motorcycle.
"The governor was unable to avoid the vehicle in his path and collided with it at a low speed," spokeswoman Margita Thompson said in a statement.
"With the governor was son Patrick, 12, a passenger in the motorcycle's sidecar," she said. "Both were wearing helmets and were released from St. John's Hospital after treatment for minor cuts and bruises. The other driver was not injured."
Schwarzenegger, who rode a motorcycle in his "Terminator films, often goes for rides on Sundays, and even mentioned his love of riding in his annual state of the state address last year.
Schwarzenegger was due to make an appearance at an event in North Hollywood on Monday and then fly to Sacramento a day ahead of his annual presentation of his new fiscal year budget.
